It contains 512 KB of fast-access flash memory and can be used to develop, store and launch cartridge games, programs and snapshots. It supports Z80 and SNA snapshots, ROM images, TAP files and MLD multiload games. Games can be loaded instantly from a simple menu, and the cartridge can also store progress for multiload titles. The contents can be changed using the Spectrum’s EAR input, a serial connection, or a Divide/DivMMC-type interface. No additional hardware is needed when transferring files by audio. A USB serial adaptor can also be used, although one is not included. Version 2.1 includes a built-in Kempston joystick interface. The cartridge also provides a range of additional features, including: - Support for 48K and 128K SNA and Z80 snapshots - Compressed or uncompressed snapshots - Support for 16K ROM images - TAP and MLD multiload games - A POK-compatible trainer library for supported games - Optional loading-screen freeze - Game compression - 128K game loading - Ramjet3 emulation - An external test ROM - The ability to pause a game with the cartridge button - The option to create snapshots directly from the Spectrum - A basic API for developing custom software and hardware applications - An edge-connector pass-through, allowing other peripherals to be connected - Automatic deactivation when another peripheral needs access to the ROM area The cartridge works with Spectrum models from the 48K through to the +3, as well as many compatible machines, including the ZX Next and Harlequin. It can remain connected while the Spectrum is used normally and does not need to be unplugged. Management software is available for Windows, macOS and Linux. The cartridge is also emulated by ZesarUX from version 4.2 onwards and by recent versions of Es.pectrum. It can also be used as a plug-and-play CP/M system with approximately 460 KB or more of virtual disk space on the ZX Spectrum +2A, +2B and +3. Games and programs can be transferred to the flash memory in several ways: - Via the Spectrum EAR input - Using a USB serial adaptor—not included - With a Divide or DivMMC interface - By removing the flash memory and programming it with a suitable programmer, such as an XGecu/TL866II—not included The cartridge supports TAP, SNA, Z80 and MLD files.
